Nokia N8 vs iPhone 4

We are looking at the two latest flagships from Nokia and Apple – the iPhone 4G and the Nokia N8. Both are touchscreen phones with a 3.5 inch capacitive screen, and meanwhile the iPhone 4 has 640 x 960 pixels and the Nokia N8 only has 360 x 640 pixels. Aesthetically, the iPhone 4G is much more squarish and sports a flat back, and the N8 has the rounder edges. The Nokia N8's OS is powered with the Symbian ^3 OS, meanwhile the iPhone runs the iOS 4 (based on the Mac OS).

The Nokia N8's dimensions stand at 113.5 x 59.1 x 12.9mm which is slightly bigger compared to 4G's 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm. The iPhone 4 is marginally heavier than the N8, only by 2 grams.

The iPhone 4 sports a 5.0 megapixel camera, and the N8 has a 12 megapixel camera. The Nokia N8 has an ARM 11 680 MHz processor, meanwhile iPhone has the Apple A4 1GHz. Internal memory-wise the iPhone 4 has 16 or 32GB Memory. Meanwhile the N8 has 16GB, with a microSD expansion that goes up to 32GB.

Data-connectivity wise, the iPhone 4 has HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps, meanwhile and the Nokia N8 HSDPA 10.2 Mbps. They both share Wi-Fi, EDGE and GPRS. The N8 has Bluetooth 3.0 and has iPhone 4 has Bluetooth 2.0.

Both are high-end devices, so they would cater to similar requirements, and while the N8 has slightly better feature, we would be hard pressed to say it has won our comparison. The iPhone 4 is still set to deliver an amazing user experience, when compared to the N8.

The iPhone 4’s screen stands at 3.5 inch screen, displays at 960x640 pixels with a glass front and back. The iPhone 4 has a glass front and back. There’s also a gyroscope, giving a 'six-axis' motion combined with the accelerometer and compass. There a stainless steel band going through the phone and doubles as an antenna.

There’s a front facing camera, a rear camera with LED flash, and new high resolution display that double the pixels in each direction at 960x 640, Apple calls it Retina Display The phone itself saw quite a few changes- a flat back, an aluminium border around the phone, it is also smaller than the 3GS, has a 16% larger battery and smaller components.

It shares the same A4 processor with the iPad, the camera been bumped to 5 megapixel, with 5x digital zoom and a ‘backside illuminated sensor,’ which now can also record HD video at 720p/30fps.

The N8 is powered by Symbian ^3, the Nokia N8 supports gestures such as flick scrolling and pinch-zoom and offers multiple, personalised home screens which can be loaded with apps from Ovi Store.

From the renders, the device looks like a giant capacitive 3.5 inch screen with 16M colours attached with a home button. With a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, the Nokia N8 offers the ability to record HD-quality videos and editing.

The device supports quad-band GSM connectivity, with Wi-Fi, EDGE, EDGE and HSDPA. With a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, there’s also the option to record HD-quality videos and edit them with an intuitive built-in editing suite.
